I was going to present an analogy using different types of cars, but more often than not, the analogy breaks down on some key point or carries some baggage that just doesn’, and folks start picking apart the analogy and assuming it still applies to the real discussion. The only way to get a perfect analogy is to just talk about what you’re talking ...

I'll post a link to the recording once I have that. In the mean time, here are some of the links mentioned in today's Silverlight 2 for Business Applications webcast: Silverlight 2 Woodgrove Bank Sample Application Source Code for same (also includes a demo script which has more in it than I demonstrated today) Silverlight 2 Controls ...

A recent post on Silverlight.net led me to revisit something I haven't played with in quite some time: DPI.
If you wonder why you sometimes drag those pngs or other images onto the design surface in blend, and they come out the wrong size, there are several things to consider:Do I have the image inside a grid cell that is constraining or ...

This is absolutely awe-inspiring.
When I was little, my favorite show was Carl Sagan's COSMOS on PBS (WGBH Channel 2, Boston). I even remember one day when I was sick, my mum brought a small TV into my room so I could still watch COSMOS that evening. Back then, I used to go to sleep and dream about the stars and nebula and everything else ...

WPF and Silverlight applications cover a whole spectrum of application types and richness from incredible full-screen applications incorporating 3d and video to games to good old standard (but highly usable and attractive) business applications.

Early in my programming career, we had a choice to make at the beginning of each project: do we do this as a command-line/console app (prompt and response), use a DOS windowing library, or do a Windows 3 native app?
Eventually, it became the norm to do a Windows app by default, and fall back to command-line only if you need to call it from batch ...

I always enjoy MIX; it's my favorite conference. I used to look forward to the PDC, but I'd only really enjoy the UI technology-related sessions there anyway.
This morning, Scott Guthrie posted a couple of interview videos which cover what's coming up in MIX08 (no, don't expect to see any secrets revealed <g>) just to whet ...

The Silverlight Showcase is a great site for sampling what folks are doing in the current production release of Silverlight. If you haven't been there in a while, you might be surprised at the number of attractive, compelling Silverlight 1.0 applications that are out there.

This is a great example of what a real business-oriented WPF (and by extension, Silverlight 2.0) application can look like. Battleship gray this is not. The look and feel is beautiful, the visual feedback slick, and the workflow simple and appropriate. In all, it looks like a great user experience targeted towards a market many people ignore ...

I previously blogged about why I stopped coding in Silverlight 1.1. I want to make it clear that that is in no way an indictment of that technology. It's just that I've learned from it what I wanted to and have moved on.
While I find 1.0 great for web gadgets and media, and found 1.1 very interesting to learn from, Silverlight 2.0, is ...
